chakkulathukavu ponkala is the annual ritual which hosts every year at chakkulathkavu devi temple, sarvamatha theerthadana kendram. it got the world attention by the participation of ladies from all areas of the state. chakkulathukavu ponkala is the second largest ponkala after attukal. it usually falls in vrichikam month. karthika is the birth star of goddess durga installed in this temple. chakkulathukavu devi kshethram located on the way from thiruvalla to edathua. ponkala usually falls in december month in gregorian calendar. ladies from all other parts of the state will do this holy event every year.
chakkulathukavu devi temple located 30 km east from alappuzha, during the ponkala day . the devotees take part in the festival, dedicate the ponkala offering at the most nearest places, but it spread to many areas especially to other taluk and districts. ponkala offering is a payasam making procedure at the paths by the blessings of goddess durga. pongala nivedyam is the sweet dish made with rice, jaggery, coconut milk, cashew, cardamom etc. this procedure carried out in a clay pot. after complete the process of dish making, goddess durga procession reach at every devotee for complete the process.
