Varahamurthy is the third incarnation of lord mahavishnu to plcae peace on earth, panniyur varahamurthy temple one of the very ancient temple in kerala also in india. it is believed that it was built 4000 years ago. as the name suggests the prime deity of kshethra is lord varaha, in old days it was the ssupreme temple of kerala and recently found stone engravings from the near by areas saying the old history of varahamurthy temple at panniyur. varaha is the form of pork which created as the third incarnation of vishnu himself to save the earth from the cruel demon hiranyakshipu.
The only temple in kerala to worship varahamurthy as prime deity is here, so that there are many devotees headed to the destination for achieving the blessings of lord. according to the hindu legends it is believed that the temple was created by parasurama and installed the main deity in the sanctum, and also it is the first temple in kerala which consecrated by parasurama. this ancient structure was built by following pure kerala style of architecture. in old days it was known as mahakshethra. sub deities exist in panniyur varahamurthy temple are shiva, ayyappa, durga, ganapathy and lakshmi narayan. as usually in all other temples there is a separate place for chithraguptha and yakshi.
Abhishta sidhi pooja is the main offering at varahamurthy. prathista day is the main festival that usually conducting in january or february. birth day of the prime deity celebrated as varaha jayanthy normally falls in malayalam month meenam. sandhya deepradhana darshan is the holy thing here to the devotees to seek the blessings. panniyur varahamurthy temple actually located at kumbidi in palakkad district, kumbidi is about 1.5 km away from kshethra with a bus terminal. nearest railway station at kuttippuram at a distance of 7 km. calicut international airport is the closest airport 70 km away.
